F1 Mobile Racing review
F1® 2019 is an ambitious racing simulation game by Codemasters whose early release on June 28, 2019 thrilled millions of avid fans of the racing game genre, including myself. Apart from the new Formula 2 championship, the game features a wide array of smaller but no less intriguing improvements and tweaks that distinguish F1® 2019 from the rest of the franchise and make it feel more true-to-life than anything we have ever seen, heard, or played before.
Although the visuals in the game were only given a superficial revamp, they managed to refine the entire experience. With its breathtaking graphics and sound, the game fully captures the spirit and feeling of a real-life F1 racing track. That said, the character models still look depressing to me.
This year’s most promising addition is the F2 championship. For those living under the rock, Formula 2 is where you start your racing career: you choose your driver school, show what you are capable of in the F2 championship, and try to earn your place on the Formula 1 team. The F2 season is very dynamic: upon completing just two challenges and a short race, you will qualify to take part in the ‘grown-up’ league. The developers level the playing field for all F2 drivers providing them with standard Dallara-built cars that are in many ways similar to F1 cars but tend to be more quirky and, therefore, tougher to drive.
The new F2 mode is absolutely my favorite because, apart from everything else, it develops an intriguing storyline of two fictional rival drivers, which is something the game has needed for a long time. The F1 game has an intrigue of its own: in their game, Codemasters revitalize some of the best moments of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost’s long-term rivalry and let you race as either of the two legendary pilots in a specialized series of 8 challenges.
Some other welcome improvements include dynamic weather change, impressive day-night biorhythm, drastically refined lighting, twenty-one of the world’s classiest circuits, a wider-than-ever selection of impeccable racing cars, and lots of livery customization available in the multiplayer mode.
Also, I enjoy that this year the AI feels more competitive. The AI-driven cars behave smarter as they try to outmaneuver you at every turn, and their management is much more skillful. Taken as a whole, F1® 2019 is a ravishing racing simulator that boasts fabulous gameplay, delightful visuals, much better sound and lighting, and a wide range of brand-new features.
- The graphics are unconditionally gorgeous;
- The Career mode is more appealing and emotional thanks to the introduction of scripted stories;
- A wider selection of unlockable character customization options.
- Track layouts sometimes require more accuracy;
- Some of the best ‘premium’ customization options can only be purchased with real money.
