Destiny 2 review
Destiny 2 is an online game developed by Bungie. It is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game that was released in 2017 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and in 2019 for Google Stadia.
The game is set in a science fantasy world. As a player, you take the role of a Guardian who is the savior of the last city on Earth. According to the plot, these Guardians have the power of Light, which is needed to protect the city from the aggressive alien races. Cabal is one of such races and it is led by the warlord Dominus Ghaul. This race invaded the city and took away the power of Light from the Guardians. And now you have to figure out how to get the Light back, how to conquer Ghaul along with his army and save the last city. Players also have the possibility to get different expansion packs, which add to the story with some new missions and content.
Destiny 2 received positive feedback from the critics. Most of the reviews were “generally favorable”. Critics specifically praised the game for a “more robust plot” and a more reasonable story of the villain, than in the first Destiny. Destiny 2 was nominated for various awards and has even won some at The Game Awards 2017 and Game Critics Awards.
From the player’s point of view, Destiny 2 is very well-optimized. It is truly one of the best action massively multiplayer online games. I was blown away by the graphics of Destiny 2, they are impressive and really pleasing to the eye. Everything is smooth and immersive. The vistas and backgrounds in the game are so beautiful that sometimes you just feel like you want to take a minute to look at them properly. And the voice acting is incredible. Destiny 2 also has great soundtracks that contribute to the overall atmosphere of the game. Especially the incredible sounds of weapons are a nice detail. The game world is very detailed and well-crafted, so it is a great pleasure to play it.
At the same time, Destiny 2 has several downsides. It is not really new-player friendly. The game doesn’t include the progression for newer players and just throws them into the middle of the story. This can cause some confusion, as you may not clearly understand where to start and what to do, because the player guidance won’t help you much.
In addition, Destiny 2 is a shooter, after all, so for some players, it may seem a bit repetitive. Basically, all you do the entire game is shooting, with little options to spice up the gameplay.
But despite these minor weak spots, Destiny 2 is possibly one of the best online games you can play in 2019.
- The engaging story along with the interesting gameplay;
- Ability to play with your friends in various game modes;
- A lot of different weapons and armor are available that enable players to personalize their combat style;
- All of the content is now completely free.
- The game needs better player guidance;
- You can’t change the facial appearance after creating the character;
- Occasional minor bugs.
